The commission addressed routine matters at their regular meeting held Monday afternoon.
A request by Sheriff of Logan County Eddie Hunter to hire Jacob Miller as Deputy Sheriff was approved, as well as the Clerk of Court Vickie Vance Kolata’s request to hire Sherry Adkins and Chenoa Combs Wolf as full-time deputy clerks. Salaries for these new hires will not affect the respective budgets.
Logan County Child Advocacy Executive Director Beth Cook requested financial assistance to hire an additional staff member. The commission approved $7,000 to add to $8,000 the center had and $7,000 approved by the Mingo County Commission.
A donation of $1,500 was approved for the Cora Summer League Basketball Committee to help with expenses for their annual camp.
Advart Patel will be competing in the World Chess Tournament at Philadelphia, Pa. The commission approved $500 to help with travel expenses.
The commission was presented with an agreement to participate in a grant to the W.Va. Workforce Investment by Region 2 representative Claude “Jake” Hunt. The grant will pay for four employees to remove debris along the creek at Mud Fork, which was devastated by flooding in March. The employees to be chosen must have been laid off and have worked no more than 13 of the previous 26 weeks. The item was tabled to allow the commission and county attorney to review the request and agreement.
The next meeting will be held July 26 at 3 p.m.
