HOLDEN — Seven of ten regional jails were impacted by the recent storms with power, water and phone service out, but now things are back to normal.

The jails all have generators, and the state and National Guard assisted in getting additional fuel to keep them running.

Southwestern Regional Jail Administrator David Farmer, said their power was never lost but phone service was down for two days. Video arraignments were not possible during the phone outage so Logan County Magistrate Dwight Williamson traveled to the jail and conducted arraignments in person.

Some of the facilities had problems with their personnel being able to come in to work, but that wasn’t an issue for the Southwestern facility either. Farmer said everyone worked together and they were able to keep everything running smoothly.

“We were fortunate, very fortunate,” said Farmer, ”Water and power here were fine and we just lost our phone service for a couple of days. There are people on the corridor near here who still don’t have power.”
