Drug and narcotic offenses continue to headline the court system in Floyd County, according to the Kentucky State Police 2011 crime statistics which were released Thursday.

“Crime affects the lives of all Kentuckians,” Gov. Steve Beshear said in a statement attached to the report. “This 2011 crime in Kentucky report presents a statewide overview of serious crimes that have occured within our commonwealth.”

According to the statistics, 337 drug/narcotic offenses were reported in Floyd County in 2011, while only 169 were cleared. The largest number of offenses reported in the county were handled by Kentucky State Police, with 148. Prestonsburg City Police had 95 reports of drug offenses.

According to the statistics, Floyd County also had the following numbers of reported crimes: Arson 3, Assault 249, Bribery 4, Burglary 180, Counterfeiting 28, Destruction of property 78, embezzlement 0, extortion 0, fraud offenses, 31, gambling 0, homicide 5, kidnapping 5, larceny/theft offenses 233, motor vehicle theft 47, pornography 10, prostitution 0, robbery 26, sex offenses forcible 22, sex offenses non-forcible 2, stolen property 26, weapons laws violations 12.

With 417 reported offenses, Floyd County ranks among the highest in the state for acts of driving under the influence.

The statistics note that there are also currently 95 registered sex offenders living in Floyd County.

A crime is committed in Floyd County every six hours and 6 minutes, according to the KSP statistics.
