A local church offers free clothing, shoes, housewares and more every Thursday evening from 4-6 p.m.
The New Covenant Fellowship, located in the former Logan Central building, has clothing of every size, for men and women, boys and girls, and for any season. Many of the articles of clothing still has price tags attached.
“Churches from other states like Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, send clothes up here,” said Sally Chambers, wife of Pastor Ron Chambers. “We had an entire boxcar of clothes sent up here in the winter from a church in Virginia. They had put all the stuff together and took it to ship it to one of the countries where there had been an earthquake. It was going to cost them $18,000 to ship it so they decided to give it to people here in the United States.”
New Covenant Fellowship has a missionary team, Dan and Debbie Lawrence, who has a lot of connections and plus searching the Internet to find goodwill offerings and missionary workers.
“Right now we have three missionary teams here plus 61 Youthworks members here this week,” Chambers said. “Every week it changes.”
Chambers said all the clothing is in good shape.
“If we find something that is stained or torn, it goes in the garbage,” Chambers said.
“Take all you want,” said church member Tina Kinser. “But we do have a policy of no returns.”
“It doesn’t matter who you are, anyone can come in and get free stuff,” Chambers said.
Following the clothing giveaway at 6 p.m., a community cookout is offered.
Chambers said that after school begins, the clothing giveaway will be held on Saturdays.
