A multi-talented performer, Glen Simpson, is sure to delight market goers this weekend.
Simpson, born and raised in Williamson, will play with another native of the town, Glen Dillon. The local duo will perform a unique fusion of mountain and folk instrumentation with lyrics of everyday life. The outdoor show is scheduled to start at noon, and is certain to liven up the afternoon.
Commenting on his musical counterpart, Simpson stated, “Dillon is a veteran who has played with just about everyone around here.” Simpson performed at the market last year playing songs such as “Home Grown Tomatoes” and other original tunes that provide a little comic relief to audiences who catch on to the hidden wit of his lyrics.
Williamson Farmers Market, open Saturdays from 8 am until 4 pm, invites local musicians to perform with hopes of drawing larger crowds to the weekend festivities. Market Manager, Helen Ann Stanley encourages everyone to “Bring your outdoor chairs and enjoy the market, the music and good company”
The market is located beside the floodwall across from BB & T Bank near the Second Avenue Bridge.
As the market grows, popular produce including Half Runner Beans, Peaches and Cream Corn and special varieties of tomatoes have been selling out. Bill Stewart, who sells produce with his wife Dorothy, commented, “We need about two more good farmers like the ones we’ve got to start selling at the market.” If you are interested in selling produce at a stand or on consignment, please contact Helen Anne at 304-601-4355.
