Three charged with unemployment fraud

Three Floyd County men were arrested last month after allegedly committing welfare fraud.
According to court records obtained from the Floyd County District Court, Patrick Lee Hall, 20, of Melvin; Elmer Lafferty Jr., 48, of Dwale; and Billy Gene Osborne Jr., 36, of Banner, each tried to defraud the government unemployment insurance.
The arrest warrants for each alleges that on July 13, “the defendant knowingly made false statemetns and failed to disclose material facts in order to obtain enemployment insurance benefits.”
The complaints were filed against the three men by Emma Wireman with Kentucky Unemployment.
Hall is accused of trying to obtain benefits in the amount of $2,583.87. Osborne is accused of trying to obtain benefits in the amount of $7,464.96, and Lafferty is accused of trying to obtain benefits in the amount of $4,619.80.
Hall was released from jail on a $10,000 surety bond and is next scheduled to appear in court on August 15, 2012.
Lafferty and Osborne both continue to be lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
