Contract worker dies at abandoned coal site

LOGAN (AP) — Federal officials say a state reclamation contract worker died from a heat-related illness while cleaning up an abandoned coal-mine site just outside Logan.

Albert Caleb Kiser of Mount Nebo died after he collapsed Thursday while cutting down a tree. He was 25.

The Charleston Gazette reports that Kiser worked for Eastern Arrow Corp. The company was reclaiming the Sugar Branch Burning Refuse Pile for the state Department of Environmental Protection’s abandoned mine lands program.
