More than 250 fishermen and fisherwomen registered to participate in the 8th Annual Tony Gill Memorial Fishing Tournament held Saturday August 4, 2012.


The annual tournament is held on the Guyandotte River from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is held in memory of Tony “Bluegill” Gill, a local fisherman known for his love of the sport of fishing and his good nature.


Winner with the longest Bass at 15.5 inches was Lester Farmer. He won the grand prize of $200. Coming in at a tie for second place with 15.25 inch fish were John McCoy and George Crum. Both men won $50 each.


Hayden Adams, with a 31.5 inch Carp was the grand prize winner of $200. Rachel Costa and Sam Marcum tied for second place with 24.25 inch fish, and late winner Jody Bias with a 26 inch fish were all awarded $50.


In the catfish division, Jay Stewart took first place with a 23 5/8 inch fish and was awarded $200. Second place winner was Bill Kinser with a 22.5 inch catfish. He was awarded $50.


After the winners were announced a raffle was held with the names of all registered anglers drawn at random for a chance of receiving one of more than 100 prizes and at least $400 worth of gift cards from Gander Mt. Organizers had 50 backpacks and $5 McDonald’s Gift Cards to give to those present who were 15 years and younger. Total of prizes given away was more than $3,000.


The Gill and Codispoti families expressed their appreciation to all that helped with the tournament and donated gifts, with a special thanks to Mc Donald’s for the use of their parking lot.
