A local Floyd County Schools head start program was recognized this week after the recent assessment results.

Floyd County Superintendent Henry Webb announced this week that Prestonsburg Elementary School was recognized regionally by the Big Sandy Area Community Action Program for having the best overall Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) score for 2011-12.

Webb singled out Judy Adams and Diana Ratliff for their commitment to excellence.

“We want to congratulate our team members Judy Adams and Diana Ratliff for this regional recognition. CLASS basically looks at the interaction between the teacher and KIDS. This is measured by looking at the classroom climate, management, productivity, but most importantly, in looking at instruction,” said Webb.

“This award tells us that the kids in this classroom received instruction that is second to none in our five-county area of Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties and that’s great.”

Webb says that the board have worked hard to make Floyd county a district of excellence, with a goal of becoming a top 50 school district. “Ms. Adams and Ms. Ratliff’s CLASS Award is another example of the dedicated staff we have that is doing whatever it takes for kids.”
