VARNEY - A collision between a dirt bike and a pickup truck resulted in a 12 year-old male being airlifted by Healthnet and transported to the Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) Wednesday evening.

According to information provided by Roger Urban and Melinda Edwards, the parents of Kevin Urban who was the juvenile injured in the accident, their son was riding his dirt bike near the Shady Woods subdivision below Varney when he was involved in a collision with a truck. The West Virginia State Police responded to the accident. The driver’s name is not available, nor is details about who was at fault.

Urban received multiple injuries during the accident and was transported from the scene by STAT Ambulance to the Burch Middle School football field where the first home game of the season for the Bulldogs was going on. Burch Middle Principal Jada Hunter told the Daily News the game was stopped and the field and stands had to be cleared in order for Healthnet to land safely.

“Kevin is one of my 7th graders,” stated Hunter. “The students held a prayer circle this morning on his behalf and we also had a moment of silence for him.”

“We want Kevin to know that he’s in our thoughts and prayers and we’re hoping that he recovers quickly.”

Urban’s parents relayed that Kevin suffered multiple fractures including both wrists and his right femur (leg), and has numerous lacerations and contusions. Kevin had to undergo surgery on Thursday to have screws and pins inserted to repair the fractures, and according to the information doctors provided to the family, will be required to have another surgical procedure in approximately 8-9 months. He is expected to remain a patient in CHH through the weekend, at minimum.

More information on the youngster’s condition and the accident will be provided as it is released to the media.
