SETH — Several Chapmanville Middle School football players got into the act as the Tigers won 26-14 at Sherman on Saturday to pick up their first win of the season.

Chapmanville (1-1) bounced back after a season-opening loss at Logan just two days prior.

The Tigers were led on Saturday by Ross Adkins who scored three out of Chapmanville’s four touchdowns as he rushed 12 times for 90 yards and a score and had five catches for 156 yards, including two touchdowns.

CMS quarterback Dylan Smith was 6-for-7 passing for 100 yards and a TD. Adam Vance was 2-for-3 passing for 73 yards and a score.

Noah Dingess and Alex Oxley each had a catch and were 1-for-2 in extra point kicks.

Hunter Long added a catch for five yards. Ryan Craddock had four rushes for 20 yards.

On defense, Long recorded three total tackles and had two interceptions. Dingess also had a pick for the Tigers.

Adkins finished with six total tackles, while Craddock and Evan Willis had five each. Adam Vance, Scotty Vance and Tyler Moore each had three stops.

Chapmanville’s Tyler Gore had a quarterback sack for a safety.

CMS coach James Barker said he was pleased with the win.

“It was a good conference win tonight,” Barker said. “Sherman was a big team and had a real good strong back. We started off slow but picked up our intensity and played hard throughout the game. I’m very proud of our kids tonight. They fought and didn’t give up. Adam and Smitty threw the ball well tonight. Defensively, Hunter Long came up with two interceptions and Noah had an interception. We were in the right places tonight defensively, we just have to start tackling better. Overall, it was a big improvement. We’re going back to work to get ready for George Washington on Saturday.”

The Tigers are set to play at George Washington on Saturday at noon at Eleanor, W.Va.
