PAINTSVILLE — The creeps come out in Johnson County this October, when the Salvation Army hosts the Zombie 5k run/walk at Paintsville Lake.

This is one race where your legs giving out are the least of your problems. “Run For Your Lives” is a first-of-its-kind event — one part 5K and one part escaping the clutches of zombies.

The race will be held Oct. 13, at Paintsville Lake State Park, on the Kiwanis Trail and at the Mountain Homeplace “In the Pines” Amphitheater.

At the end of the adventure race, registrants will celebrate their survival (or zombie transformation) at the “Post-Apocalyptic” Party with live music, food and more.

Registration begins at 3 p.m. and the race will start at 4 p.m. Registration is $25 per runner or $15 per walking dead. Admission to the after-party is included in the registration fee. Awards will be given at the end of the race. After Oct. 1, registration will be an additional $5.

Those wanting to skip the race and make their way to the after party can get a party pass for $5 per person.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Salvation Army of Johnson County.
