The age limit for Secret Santa is children 12 and under. If you receive food stamps you automatically qualify but must bring your food stamp card with you. If you don’t receive food stamps you must bring in proof of all household income and do the monthly expenses to see if you qualify based on household size. You also need Social Security numbers for all household members.


Stollings family reunion


G.C. “Buck” and Daisy Stollings family reunion is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at the home of Ron Stollings at Haddalton.

The Boone Madison Public Library Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public and are held at the Madison library.


Rubber Duck Race


The Madison Fall Festival will have a “Rubber Duck Race” on Sunday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Madison City Park. The race is at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and the prize is $500. You can purchase tickets at Spa Envy and The Grapevine in Madison or by calling 304-369-0763.

Veteran’s Memorial


Madison VFW Post 5578 is building a Veteran’s Memorial to honor mothers of veterans and veterans. Purchase a brick for $50. Reunion


The decedents of the late Levi and Lora Cook Harvey will be on Sept. 16, 2012 beginning at 1-1:00a.m. with Pastor Benny Turner preaching. Dinner will be served. Fall Council Circle


Any child who would like to join 4-H is invited to come to Fall Council Circle. To find out if 4-H is for you. Please come out and join us for an evening of fun. Any child can join between the ages of 9-21 yrs. old or in 3rd grade. The evening will have fun events such as fishing, socializing, corn hole, signing, and a potluck dinner on Sept. 15, 2012, from 5 to 10 p.m., Big Ugly, WV, approximately one mile from the Big Ugly Exit (follow signs). Van High School 50 year reunion Class of 1962 and Roger Osborne Coal Camp Reunion


Dear classmates and friends, we are having our 50th year class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Park Avenue Restaurant, Danville, WV 25053, and beginning at 6pm. We will be having a Buffet dinner and the cost of the dinner is $34/couple, includes gratuity and the cost of singles is $17, which includes gratuity. Coat Drive


Do you have coats that you don’t need anymore? Donate them!


Winter is here and there are people in our community who could use a nice warm coat. Between now and Nov. 5, there will be a box available for you to donate your gently-used coats. They will be going to BC Residents/Union Mission, which is in desperate need of coats. You can drop the coats off at the Town of Danville Community Center! Please only donate clean, reusable coats! The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival


The 2nd Annual Big Coal River Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at John Slack Park, Racine, West Virginia. The festival will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 6 p.m. There will be crafters, food vendors, musicians, quilts on display, and a tour of the one room schoolhouse. Logan Civil War Heritage Weekend


The Logan Civil War Heritage Weekend is set for Sept. 29 and 30 at Chief Logan State Park in Logan. Admission is free to the public and the events featured are Civil War demonstrations, quilters, activities for the children, face painting, hay rides and so much more. Refreshments will be sold.


TOPS meetings


TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Thursday at the Fountain of Life Worship Center, Rock Creek. The entrance is on the left side of the building. Weigh in is from 5 to 5:30 p.m. TOPS is a nonprofit Weight Loss support group. Membership is $28 a year which includes a monthly magazine. Games and incentives are used weekly for weight loss motivation. TOPS is open to men, women and children seven years or older.


Sherman High School


Sherman High School’s classes of 1950, 1951, and 1952 will hold a joint Class Reunion on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Holiday Inn & Suites (formerly Ramada Inn) in South Charleston. Scott Cookbook


Scott High School’s class of 2014 will be publishing The Scott High School Community Cookbook this spring. The school would like to encourage all community members to submit their favorite recipes. All submissions need to be turned in no later than March 5th.

A Boone County Democrat Executive Committee meeting is scheduled at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2012, in the Circuit Courtroom on the second floor of the Boone County Courthouse in Madison. All members are urged to attend this important meeting.
