The Hazard Bulldogs traveled to Lexington this past week to take on the Lexington Christian Eagles. The Bulldogs got on the board first but fell behind. They had a shot at the end zone late, but ultimately came up short before falling to the Eagle 27-21.
Hazard shocked their opponent early with an 80-yard run from Nathan Higgins. After the Kevin Eversole extra point, the Bulldogs had a 7-0 lead.
Lexington Christian recovered from the shock and scored three touchdowns in the first period. The Eagles scored on a pair of runs (four and 30 yards), and a medium pass (30 yards). At the end of the first period, Hazard trailed 21-7.
Lexington Christian went up 27-7 early in the second period on a 27-yard run. The Eagles were looking to score again, when Austin Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it 27 yards for the touchdown. The Bulldogs missed the conversion, and went to the locker room trailing 27-13.
Neither team scored in the third period, leaving the Bulldogs to make up the difference in the final stanza. Hazard picked up a touchdown midway through the period (13-yard run by Evan Whitaker) and tacked on the conversion (27-21).
The Bulldogs had a couple of opportunities down the stretch, but came up short, and went home with a 27-21 loss.
