BELFRY, Ky. - The Belfry Middle School Pirates continued with the perfect season as they defeated the Johnson Central Eagles 7-0 Thursday night at Vipperman Stadium.

Central controlled the ball the entire first quarter and kept the Belfry offense off the field. With JCMS having the ball first and goal from the four and threatening to score, the Pirate defense tightened up with their interior line, which played a huge part In holding the visitors out of the end zone.

Linemen Jacob Parsley, Ray Horton and Austin Dotson were praised for their efforts in the trenches.

Belfry took over on the one and wasted no time moving down the field. The drive stalled on the Johnson Central 30, after a costly penalty. A Cameron Catron pass to tight end Cole Bentley was batted away at the last second.

They went into the locker room at the half tied 0-0.

The 3rd quarter saw some hard hitting by the two heavyweight teams. With no one scoring in the 3rd quarter, it was a matter of time before one team had to give.

In the final quarter, the Belfry offense took control, with some key runs by Andrew Fletcher and Ray Horton.

The Pirates had the football first and goal on the 6-yard line. On the third try, Devin Varney hit the paydirt from 1 yard out. The PAT kick from Austin Woolum was good, giving Belfry a 7-0 lead with five minutes left in the game.

The BMS defense bent, but didn’t break, holding Central on four plays inside the 10-yard line to end the game.

Horton sacked the Eagle quarterback on the final play. The defensive leaders for the Pirates were with 7 tackles, Chase Dove 6, Bentley, Horton, Dotson and Josh Thacker with 5 each.

The Pirates next game will be Tuesday when they play host to the East Ridge Warriors at Vipperman Stadium. They will take on the Prestonsburg Blackcats on the Field Turf of Haywood Field, Saturday, September 29. The Pirates have a chance of ending the regular season a perfect 10-0 for the first time in school history.
