EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Franklin D. “Deadle” Adkins, 74, of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at his home following a brief illness.

Born September 14, 1938, in Logan, he was a son of the late Oscar and Olive Fouch Adkins. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Madeline Bailey, and four brothers, Harvey Elwood Adkins, Jason Adkins, Leon Adkins and Vernon Adkins.

A career 20 year veteran, Mr. Adkins retired from the U.S. Army in 1976. A Green Beret and a member of the Army’s Special Forces, he served two tours in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the service, he lived in Fayetteville, N.C., where he worked for the city street department and was in charge of equipment. He also worked with heavy equipment in the strip mines in West Virginia and he owned and operated A&B Auto Service in Omar for several years. He enjoyed woodworking and music, and he avidly followed current events and enjoyed watching C-SPAN.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sellards Adkins, whom he married Feb. 5, 1963; two daughters, Donna Adkins (Mark) Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, and Holly (Brent) Bosco of East Liverpool; a son, Steve (Kimberly) Adkins of East Liverpool; seven grandchildren: Alison Anderson, Amanda Anderson, Gage White, Aubrey Bosco, Brandon Adkins, Stephanie Adkins and Brett Clark; one great-grandson, Braedyn Brereton; three sisters, Ruth (Elmo) Curry of Johnstown, Ohio, Lynn Dell Ellis of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Iris (Jack) Elkins of North Carolina, and six brothers, Billy (Georgia Mae) Adkins, Linden (Gladys) Adkins and Robert (Barbara) Adkins, all of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Clifton Curtis Adkins of South Carolina, Hobart (Doris) Adkins of Logan, and Roscoe (Ruth) Adkins of Leesburg, Ga.

Rev. Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks is to conduct a memorial service at noon Friday, September 28, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 767 Park Blvd., East Liverpool. Immediately following the service, family and friends will gather at the church fellowship hall for continued fellowship and refreshment.

Arrangements are being handled by the Dawson Funeral Home of East Liverpool, Ohio.
