INEZ, Ky. - The Belfry Pirates continue to sail as they stomped Sheldon Clark 54-6 Friday night at “The Rock” in Inez, Ky.


In the first quarter, junior tailback Justin Johnson scored on a 25 yard carry. Trinity Carr’s extra point was good to make it 7-0.


Johnson then rushed for a 17 yard TD later in the opening quarter. Carr’s extra point was no good, but Belfry led 13-0 after the first quarter.


Belfry’s potent running game really took off in the second quarter as they scored 28 unanswered points.


In the second quarter, Carr broke free and scored on a 57 yard run. Keaton Taylor’s 2-point conversion run was good to make it 21-0.


Johnson continued his offensive onslaught as he scored on a 72 yard run. Carr’s kick was good to make it 28-0.


Josh Robinson scored the next Pirate TD on a 4-yard carry. Carr’s extra point was no good to add to the Belfry lead.


Taylor’s 20-yard pass to senior tight end Tony Messer was good for another Pirate score. Carr’s extra point was good to give the visitors a 41-0 lead heading into the dressing room at the half.


In the third quarter, Robinson raced his way to another score, this time on a 55-yard carry. Carr’s kick was good, making it 48-0. That is how the third quarter ended for Coach Philip Haywood’s squad.


In the fourth quarter, Sheldon Clark’s Chase Lafferty scored on a 1-yard carry, however the 2-point conversion was no good.


Kaleb Edwards, a sophomore tailback, scored on a two yard carry, for Belfry’s final score.


Belfry was lead in tackles by Nick Bunch with nine, Zack Thompson also had nine, and Payton Mullins had nine stops.


Johnson had only five rushing attempts for 132 yards, Robinson rushed four times for 109 yards and Carr had eight chances for 89 yards.


Belfry is now 4-1 on the season and will play host to East Ridge Friday night. The game will be homecoming for the Pond Creek school. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at CAM Stadium.


Sheldon Clark is now 3-3 on the season. Coach Shawn Hager’s club will play host to Lawrence County on Friday night.
