Laura Lee Smith, 76, of Hazard, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23 at the hospice care center in Hazard. She was the daughter of the late Francis G. and the late Blanche Bell.
Laura was a 1954 graduate of Hazard High School and a 1958 graduate of Eastern Kentucky State College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where she served as an elder and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Garden Club, the Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and a Kentucky Colonel. She was honored at Civic Night as “Woman of the Year” in 1998.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wayne Smith; children Michael (Judy) of Palmetta, Fl., Pat (Julie) of Mason, Ohio, Susan Mosley (Hughie) of Hazard,and Doug (Glenn) of Lexington; grandchildren Katie Smith, Laura Beth Mosley, Heather Smith and Kyle Smith.
The family requests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in Hazard.
The funeral service will begin at noon on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ellen Peach officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Jeff.
