SIMPSONVILLE - The Morehead State University men’s golf team tallied a three-round 911 to finish 13th in the Louisville Cardinal Intercollegiate at the Cardinal Club Golf Course.

The Eagles posted a second-round 293, but recorded a 312 in the first round and 306 over the final 18 holes. The course was played at a par of 72 and yardage of 7,036.

“We had a decent second round, but our first and third rounds needed to be better,” Morehead State Coach Dr. Rex Chaney said. “There were several quality opponents at this tournament, and you’re not going to be very competitive when you only play one good round.”

Senior Jared Flanery led Morehead State with a 220, which tied for 24th place out of 84 golfers. Senior Crit Reddick (228), freshman Logan Hogge (229), junior Michael Pinsonneault (235) and freshman Will Branham (235) also competed for the Eagles.

“This was the second consecutive tournament where we’ve had one solid round and two not-so-great rounds,” Chaney said. “Yesterday’s second-round performance speaks to our potential, but we need to see that type of effort more consistently at tournaments.”

The host Cardinals (858) won the 15-team event, while Bowling Green (867), Murray State (868), Arkansas-Little Rock (871) and Austin Peay (880) also managed top-five finishes.

Bowling Green senior Wes Gates registered three straight rounds at or below par en route to medalist honors (209). A total of 12 individuals closed out at 216 or better for the two-day affair.

The beginning of the third round was delayed over five hours due to poor weather conditions.

The Eagles will continue their fall slate next week at the Murray State Invitational.
