INEZ, Ky. – Lawrence County went into Inez and got by Sheldon Clark 39-33 last Friday night in eastern Kentucky high school football action.

The Bulldogs took the 7-0 lead, but the Cardinals answered back as Patrick Rice scooped up a fumble and raced 80- yards for a TD. Jared Stevens booted the extra point to tie the game 7-7.

In the second quarter, LCHS scored twice to take a 21-7 lead.

Sheldon Clark tailback Chase Lafferty cut into the lead on a 28-yard touchdown run. The PAT failed, and the score was 21 – 13 with 5:47 left in the half.

Sheldon Clark came out in the second half and finished an 8-play, 55-yard drive with a Brady Cline one yard TD plunge. Lafferty was stopped on the conversion run, but the lead was cut to 21 - 19 with 6:23 left in the third quarter.

The Cardinals took the lead after Lafferty hit pay-dirt from 34 yards out. The conversion failed, but the home team led 25- 21.

In the final quarter, the SCHS defense forced a punt and the football took a bounce and Lafferty tried to pick it up. However, he gets hit and fumbles, and LCHS recovered with 10:20 left in the game.

Soon after, the Bulldogs scored on a 1-yard run and regained the lead at 27-25 at the 8:06 mark of the quarter.

On the first play of the Card’s next possession, the handoff between Bryce Workman and Rice was mishandled, and the Bulldogs recovered the fumble. Lawrence County took advantage of the turnover for another score and led 33-25.

Sheldon Clark scored again as Workman hit Lafferty for a 12-yard pass. Workman’s conversion tied the game at 33-33 with 3:18 left in the game.

Coach Shawn Hager had his team try for an on-sides kick, but LCHS recovered it.

The Bulldogs then drove 62 yards in seven plays for a score to take the lead for good.

Lafferty had 13 carries for 101 yards and a pair of TDs, Brandon Butcher had 42 yards on nine carries and Workman carried the pigskin six times for 42 yards. Workman was 5-of-18 passing for 72 yards. Lafferty had four catches for 61 yards and a score.

Lawrence County rushed for 482 yards.

Sheldon Clark is now 3-4 on the season and will travel to East Ridge this Friday.
