The Rev. William Carson Powers, better known as “Pa Powers”, 96, of Bee, Va., passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, at Clinch Valley Medical Center with his loving daughter and son-in-law by his side.

Born September 2, 1916, in Frying Pan, Va., he was a son of the late Harve and Celia Rasnake Powers.

A retired coal miner, he was formerly employed by Clinchfield Coal and was a member of the UMWA. Pa was the founder and devoted pastor of Bee Pentecostal Church at Bee, since 1965. He was a devoted pastor, husband, father, and grandfather. Pa has touched many lives during his time on this earth. He has led many people to God, performed many weddings, preached countless funerals, prayed for numerous people and witnessed various healings through the power of God. He was a great man of God and has left a great testimony. Pa Powers will be sadly missed by family, friends, and his church family that loved him so dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Bertha “Ma” Powers; one grandson, Barry Duane Browning; three brothers, Howard, Frank, and Homer Powers; and three sisters, Carrie Smith, Cartha Kiser, and Goldie Edwards. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, C.B. and Carmel Powers of Litchfield, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Carl Ellis of Varney; five grandchildren, Terry Powers and wife, Robin, Tammy Dressler and husband, Bob, Timothy Powers, Greg Browning and wife, Robin, and Trina Kervin and husband, Preston; six great-grandchildren, Kirsten Browning, Tate Kervin, T.J. Powers and wife, Jeff, Rachael Barner and husband, Matt, Brittany Dressler and Kendra Artrip; five great-grandchildren, Marlyna Powers, Aleah Powers, Trey Powers, Lucas Gibbs and Braylon Coleman; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with the Rev. Grady McGlothlin, the Rev. Giles Ball, and the Rev. Andrew Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be David Stevens, Dustin Tiller, Goebel Stevens, Harold Hackney, Pat Barrett, and Leck Ray. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
