BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne was unable to post its second straight win Friday night. In a key Class 2A, District 8 matchup, visiting Leslie County held on to beat the Bobcats 26-19.

Reigning Class 2A, District 8 champion Leslie County won for the second time in three outings. The win allowed the Eagles to move to one game above .500. With the win, Leslie County improved to 4-3 overall. The Eagles opened district play 1-0. Leslie County will host district rivals Shelby Valley and Prestonsburg in back-to-back games over the next two weeks.

Betsy Layne dropped its second game in three weeks. The Bobcats slipped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the district. Betsy Layne owned a 4-1 record through its first four games.

Betsy Layne managed 300 total yards in the loss. Junior quarterback Dylan Hamilton led the Bobcat offense. Hamilton completed 13-of-24 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown. The Betsy Layne quarterback also rushed for a touchdown. Hamilton, however, had three of his pass attempts intercepted.

Josh Salisbury led Betsy Layne in rushing. Salisbury rushed 17 times for 80 yards. Houston Hall added 50 yards and one touchdown via 11 rush attempts for the Bobcats.

Dustin Rogers led Betsy Layne in receiving. Rogers reeled in four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Peyton Case (four catches for 49 yards), Blake Spencer (three catches for 32 yards) and Houston Hall (two catches for 23 yards) also had multiple receptions for the Bobcats.

Numerous players stepped up and performed well for the Betsy Layne defense. Salisbury and Hall led the Betsy Layne defense with 10 tackles apiece. Hamilton and Case added eight tackles each for the Bobcats. Zach Bowens, Charles Daniels, Blake Rose and Preston Thacker each had six tackles for the Betsy Layne football team. Bowens also added an interception for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats will play at home throughout the remainder of the regular-season. Betsy Layne will host non-district opponents in two of its last three regular-season games. The Bobcats will entertain Hannan, W.Va., on Friday, Oct. 12. Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Hannan game is set for 7:30 p.m.
