Scott crushed by Wayne on homecoming night
by FROM STAFF REPORTS
WEST MADISON – It was a wonderful day with a homecoming parade through town and when game time rolled around thousands packed the stands in what appeared to be the largest crowd in Scott football history.
The Class AA game featured the undefeated No. 1 ranked Scott Skyhawks at home against the undefeated No. 3 ranked Wayne Pioneers.
“Since about 2003 we’ve set out to build a pretty consistent program,” Scott Coach Shane Griffith said prior to the game. “One of the teams we looked to in building our team is Wayne. The Pioneers play hard and are consistently one of the top programs in the state.”
On the second play of the game, a Wayne running back got outside and around the Scott defense for an 80-yard touchdown run. That long run was just the beginning of several big plays by the Pioneers in a dominating 47-6 win over the Skyhawks.
The Cardinal Conference matchup was a hard hitting game with both teams having players injured during the game.
Scott’s only touchdown came on a Robert Bias pass to Dylan Dehart.
Skyhawk runningback Cameron Loftus ran hard and played well on defense, but the team just couldn’t get any momentum throughout most of the game. Tryston Crone also played well on defense.
Loftus had 44 yards on 13 carries to lead the team in rushing. Scott only passed for 15 yards in the game.
Wayne improves its record to 6-0 on the season, while Scott drops to 6-1. Both teams appear to have Class AA playoff spots wrapped up and could meet again down the road.
The Skyhawks will travel to Herbert Hoover High School this Friday night, Oct. 12, to take on the Huskies in another Cardinal Conference matchup.
The Huskies go into the contest with a record of 1-6. Hoover lost 27-20 in their recent league contest against Sissonville.
The game will be live on the radio on WZAC 92.5 FM with the pre-game show starting at 7 p.m.
