Mary Coots Stacy, 79, died Monday, Oct. 8 at the hospice care center in Hazard.

She was born August 15, 1933 in Perry County, the daughter of the late Monroe Coots and the late Mallie Wells Coots, and was also preceded in death by her companion, Corbin “Bud” Stacy; brothers Elmer and Lloyd Coots, sisters Janie Cody, Ollie Meeks, Lulie Caudill, and Martha Combs; granddaughter Jessica Stacy; and grandsons Brandon and Samuel Childers.

She had been a life-long resident of Leslie and Perry counties, a member of the Trinity Holiness Tabernacle, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading the Bible and going to church.

She is survived by sons, Monroe Coots of Indiana, Corbin Stacy, Jr. of Indiana, Carl Stacy and wife Sue of London, Preston Stacy of Viper, and Carson Stacy and wife Tammy of Indiana; daughters Mary Alice Finns and husband Kenny of Cumberland, Tammy Joseph of Viper, Mallie Fields and husband Craig of Viper, Laura Childers and husband Eugene of Viper, Freda Fields and husband George of Viper, and Peggy Caudill and husband James of Viper; brothers Ernest Coots and wife Susie of South Carolina, and James “Jim” Coots and wife Dorothy of Georgia; sister Bertha Cody and husband Lester of Viper; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 12 at noon at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Duane Allen officiating. The interment will follow in the Adams-Lewis Cemetery located at Viper. The visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
