A Mt. Gay man has been charged with obtaining goods under false pretenses in the month of August.

Albert Lee Brown, 36, was charged with three counts of fraudulent schemes and three counts of false pretenses by West Virginia State Senior Trooper J.K. Harris on September 28.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown allegedly called Bailey Hardwoods LLC at Big Creek and asked for 10 boxes of flooring “for a residential job.” Brown reportedly advised Owen Bailey, owner of the business, that he could not pay for the flooring up front, but would make “payment on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.” Brown signed an invoice when picking up the flooring and returned again on August 29 and August 31 and obtained an additional 42 boxes of the flooring from Bailey’s secretary.

As of September 28, Brown had not paid for the flooring. An investigation by Harris allegedly revealed that Brown “is not conducting any residential work and obtained the flooring to resale to support his drug addictions.”

Brown is incarcerated in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $15,000 bail.
