LEWES, Del. — Charles A. Carrere, 88, of Lewes, Del., passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side Friday, October 12, 2012, at his residence.

Born January 11, 1924, in Karns City, Pa., he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Marianne Molino Carrere.

Mr. Carrere was a resident of Lewes for the past 23 years, coming from Wilmington, Del. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Air Force from January 1943 to December 1945, serving with the 544th AAF Base Unit as a radio operator and mechanic. He later worked for the DuPont Corporation in Wilmington as a Research Technologist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lewes, American Legion Post No. 28, Oak Orchard, and enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joan Ellis Carrere; one son, Steve (Dyane) Carrere of Reading, Pa.; one daughter, Linda (Mark) Schorah of Placida, Fla.; five granddaughters: Stefanie (Dustin) Yoder of Greenwood, Del., Marissa (Steve) Oparowski of Easthampton, Mass., Emily Carrere of Malvern, Pa., Tara Schorah of Placida and Angela Schorah of Wilmington; two grandsons: Chris (Dorina) Davis of Harbeson, Del., and David Schorah of Wilmington; one great-grandson, Oliver Oparowski of Easthampton, Mass.; three sisters: Lena Adkins of Logan, Aileen Sauscermen of Newark, Del., and Virginia Beavers of Sidney, Ohio, and two brothers: Earnie Carrere of Newark and William Carrere of McConnell.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with his Pastor David Munro officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 19, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
