The Hazard Bulldogs (4-3) traveled to Pineville on Friday to take on the Pineville Mountain Lions. The winner of this game would claim the district football title.
Hazard did not get off to a particularly good start, allowing Pineville to put the only points on the board in the first period. At the end of one, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 14-0. However, things would look up for the Bulldogs in the second period.
Hazard started the second period with a touchdown from Nathan Higgins, who carried the ball in from wix yards out. After the extra point, the Bulldogs trailed 14-7.
It would not be long before Hazard was back in the end zone. This time Jordan Olinger went over the defense and pulled down a five-yard pass from Evan Whitaker. This would tie the second, and send the two teams to the locker room with a new game awaiting them in the second half.
The Bulldogs were back at it in the third period, keeping the momentum on their side of the field. Jordan Olinger put Hazard on top with a 25-yard reception (21-14). Olinger added another grab in the fourth quarter (his third of the game), this one went for 75 yards (28-14).
Pineville got a late touchdown and conversion, but it was to no avail as Hazard went on to the 28-22 victory. The win put the Bulldogs’ record at 5-3, and secured home field for the playoffs.
