HARTS, W.Va. — Robert Hughie Kirk, 72, of Harts, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1940, in Harts, he was a son of the late Lucian and Myrtle Farley Kirk. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Albert Gene Kirk; one sister, Rhonda Joy Kirk; his mother and father-in-law, Orville and Dentis Adams Mullins, and several brother and sister-in-laws.
Robert was a charter member and Deacon of the Piney Community Church. He enjoyed singing with the Kirk Quartet for 10 years. He was a retired carpenter and member of Local 302 for 49 years. He worked the last 25 years for the Logan Planning Mill where he retired in 1987.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Mullins Kirk; one daughter, LaDonna (Steven) Slate of Harts; one son, Robert Keith (Tammy) Kirk of Chapmanville; four sisters, Avonelle Moore and Francis (Odie) Tomblin, both of Harts, Geraldine (John) Adams of Winfield and Clarice Linkous of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six brothers, Okie (Wanda) Kirk, Doug (Avanell) Kirk, Roger (Sandra) Kirk all of Harts, Tracy (Jean) Kirk of Rollesville, N.C., Bill (Janice) Kirk of Chapmanville and Ralph (Reda) Kirk of Salt Rock; three grandchildren, Randi Slate of Fletcher, N.C., and Robbie Slate and Savannah Kirk both of Chapmanville; one great-grandchild, Noah Slate Manns of Fletcher; a special nephew, Mark (Tonya) Kirk, who he loved as a son; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and church family.
Services will be held at noon Wednesday, October 24, at Freeman Funeral Home with Jimmy Carter and Kenny Kirk officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucian Kirk Cemetery at Harts.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
