BELFRY - Senior Weston Little rushed 13 times for 206 yards, hauled in one reception for 56 yards and scored three touchdowns as South Floyd defeated Class A, District 8 rival Phelps 48-6 Friday night at Belfry.
The win allowed South Floyd to improve to 4-5 overall. More importantly, South Floyd concluded regular-season district competition 2-1. The Raiders are the runner-up behind Pikeville in Class A, District 8 and will host a game in the opening round of the State Playoffs.
Continuing to struggle, Phelps dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the district. Without a home field, Phelps has had to play all of its games on the road during the 2012 season.
Multiple South Floyd players had key roles in the district triumph. Little wasn’t the only South Floyd player to reach the endzone on separate occasions. Blake Dye added two touchdowns for the Raiders. Dye rushed eight times for 75 yards. The versatile Dye also reeled in an eight-yard reception.
Jacob Meade took one carry in for a 44-yard touchdown during South Floyd’s winning effort.
South Floyd quarterback Jacob Crager was nearly perfect, completing six-of-seven passes for 96 yards and one touchdown.
Bryon Caudill, Ethan Johnson, Mason Branham, Josh Clemons and Cory Thornsberry also contributed for the South Floyd offense.
Johnson and Thornsberry led the South Floyd defense with nine tackles apiece. Blaine Little aided the Raiders’ defensive effort with eight tackles and one fumble recovery. Brett Daniels also had eight tackles for South Floyd in the district win.
South Floyd will host East Ridge for a regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 26. Kickoff for the South Floyd-East Ridge football game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Raider Field.
