SPRATTSVILLE, W.Va. — Charles Henry Britt, 58, of Sprattsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to join his many loved ones waiting for him in heaven Sunday, October 21, 2012, from his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Charles was the son of Betty Roop Chapman Newton, Kan., and the late Gus Britt.
Also preceding him in death was his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Audra Nester Ellis; his grandparents: Henry and Myrtle Britt and Charles and Alta Roop, and his brother-in-law, Charlie Ellis.
Charles was a disabled coal miner with Hobet Mining and a member of the Iaeger Masonic lodge 147 and commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. He gave his life to the Lord on December 31, 2006, and became a Born Again Christian. He loved the Lord and loved telling others about Him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
Those left to love and cherish his memory and to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Sherry Ellis Britt; daughter and son, Kara and Shayne Plummer of Sprattsville; son and daughter, Daniel and Sharon Britt of Sprattsville; brother, Lee (Michelle) Britt of Newton; step-mother, Mary Sue Britt of Hanover; step-sister, Monica Robinson of Germanton, N.C.; step-brother Melvin (Regina) McNew of Westfield, N.C.; granddaughters, Katlyn and Aubrey Plummer of Sprattsville (PaPaw loved his “Sweetie” Katlyn and his “Pumpkin” Aubrey with all his heart.); grandson, Joshua Lester of Verner; great-granddaughter, Sophia Lester of Verner; brothers-in-law, Terry (Jennifer) Ellis of Lugoff, S.C., and David Ellis of Gilbert; sister-in-law, Lisa Ellis of Accoville; nephews: Chris (Jenny) Britt of Newton, Heath (Stephany) Ellis of Justice, Wes (Tara) Ellis of Lenore, Matt (Amber) Ellis and Patrick (Tristan) Ellis, both of Logan, Brett Dotson of Athens, and Timmy (Sarah) McNew and Anthony McNew, both of Westfield; nieces: Ashley (Lloyd) Mullins and Linsey (Jordan) Abbott, both of Gilbert, Shelley (Casey) Shepherd of Lexington, N.C., Stevie Icenhour of Columbia, S.C., and Brittany Robinson of Westfield; two very special little buddies: Dillon and Kobi May, and a host of other dear relatives and friends.
Friends may gather with the family to celebrate Charles’ life from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel.
The celebration will continue at 1 p.m. Friday, October 26, funeral home with the Rev. Curtis “Sammy” Lester, Rev. Diamond Carter, Rev. Dennie Evans, Rev. Michael Browning and Rev. Jim Nagy officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Rollyson, Dennie Evans, Jimmy Tiller, Frenchie Duty, Grant Browning, Steve Kovach, Eddie Grimmett, Joe Hatfield, Johnny Belcher, Terry Belcher, Bobby Thomas, James Jewell, Steve Dotson and Christopher Mark Cline.
