Political campaigning can become nauseating

More than once, I have heard someone describe political campaigning this year with such words as sickening, unsettling, revolting, repulsive, disgusting and bad enough to turn one’s stomach. The prevaricators have evaded the truth, equivocated and lied 24/7 – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have made lying a full time occupation. Some seem to be trying to “lie oneself into office.”

That way of life seems to run the gamut all the way from a candidate for dogcatcher in a one-dog town to the highest office in the states and nation. They lie about state, national and international affairs. To be factual and truthful seems to be a way of life they have never adopted.

Lying in the political arena is so common we often hear such absurd and untrue remarks as, “all politicians are liars.” That is not true. That is related to the theory that one bad apple can spoil the whole basket. Many politicians are godly people of the highest integrity.

Listen to the “fact checkers”, “attitude checkers” and “behavior checkers.” In national debates, it has been embarrassing to watch and listen to crude remarks, interruptions and ungentlemanly conduct on the part of some of our highest-ranking national leaders. Crudeness and a bully approach in a debate does not deserve the votes of intelligent people.

Some have a very limited vocabulary so they must resort to an unpolished ignorance and churlishness in an attempt to get their point across. In a recent debate, one spoke and acted like a president and another behaved in the manner expected of a sophomoric, loudmouthed, self-centered braggart. The difference is easily recognized and certainly will be rewarded appropriately.

Since the 1950s, Billy Graham, a gentleman with whom I have spoken many times, has been recognized as “America’s Pastor” and rightfully so. He is a man of unusual intellect and wisdom. Speaking of the coming election, Dr. Graham said, “I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman.”

I agree with Billy Graham. I cannot imagine how any pastor, Christian or American citizen could ever accept such devastating evils as abortion and same sex marriage. We can all be thankful during this “Pastors Appreciation Month” for the thousands of pastors who faithfully teach and preach the Word of God.

As we get closer to the day of county, state and national elections, be sure you understand the values and beliefs of those men and women who are running for office. Will they be leaders of integrity and wisdom who will seek to restore our nation to its rightful place in world affairs and economic strength? With proper leadership, we can experience revival and restoration and be a nation of godly strength.

Years ago I became acquainted with these powerful biblical words of eternal truth, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, (or any person of any age), that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7).

I am convinced that there are few undecided voters. How could anyone not know how to vote when we have the records and results to review, as well as thousands of promises we have heard?

Every person should vote intelligently. The most important vote in this election will be your vote.

Some are predicting a landslide election result. There can be if the people who want a particular candidate to win, go to the polls and vote in landslide numbers.
