On Saturday, the University of Pikeville Bears, which includes several Hazard and Perry Central graduates on its roster, hosted the Kentucky Christian Knights (5-3). The Bears (3-5) fell behind early, and struggled throughout to get back in the game.

The Knights took the opening kickoff and slowly marched down field until they concluded with a seven-yard run. Pikeville fumbled their first possession, but got the ball back. The Bears, however, would have to settle for a 27-yard field goal.

The only other score of the first half would go to Kentucky Christian. The Knights finished off a short drive with a seven-yard touchdown pass. They would go into the locker room up 14-3.

On their opening drive of the second half, the Bears racked up the yardage. Unfortunately, the yards were in the wrong direction. The drive eventually ended with the Knights netting a safety (16-3).

In the fourth quarter, Pikeville picked up some momentum as they intercepted a ball on the Knights’ end of the field. The Bears finished off the drive as Jared Harris took over from the Wildcat, and ran the ball in from two yards out (16-10).

Pikeville’s defense played hard in the closing minutes, trying to get the offense another shot at the end zone. However, it was not to be, as Kentucky Christian managed to apply the icing on the cake with a 29-yard touchdown run.

The game ended with the Knights collecting the 22-10 win. The Bears fell to 3-6 on the season, while the Knights improved to 6-3.
