EASTERN - The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats, under the direction of head coach Doug Hopkins, claimed the Right Beaver Classic title Saturday. Prestonsburg defeated McDowell 18-3 in the RBC title game.


Here’s a look back at Prestonsburg’s journey to the 2012 Right Beaver Classic championship.


Prestonsburg 25, May Valley 11: Anna Belle Trusty and Beth Burchett scored six points apiece to lead Prestonsburg past May Valley 25-11 in the first round of the Right Beaver Classic.


Setting the tone early, Prestonsburg outscored May Valley 16-0 in the first quarter. The Lady Blackcats took a 19-0 lead into halftime and led 25-7 when the third quarter ended.


Alivia Slone and Chelsa Samons scored four points apiece for the Lady Blackcats. MaKayla Ousley and Allison Cobern contributed two points apiece and Ava Grace Hyden scored on a free throw for the Prestonsburg girls’ basketball team.


Destiny Elliott led May Valley with a game-high 10 points. Kylie Stevens chipped in one point in the loss.


Prestonsburg 29, Allen 17: Beth Burchett poured in a game-high 14 points and teammate MaKayla Ousley joined her in double figures with 10 as Prestonsburg defeated longtime rival Allen 29-17 in the second round.


Prestonsburg overcame a one-point halftime deficit after Allen led 7-6 at intermission.


The Lady Blackcats thrived in the second half, outscoring Allen 23-10 after halftime.


Anna Belle Trusty added five points for Prestonsburg in the victory.


Kaitlyn Newsome led Allen with 11 points. Alley Jarvis added six points for the Lady Eagles.


Prestonsburg 18, McDowell 3 (Championship Game): Prestonsburg gradually pulled away to beat McDowell 18-3 in the championship game of the Right Beaver Classic.


After edging McDowell 3-2 in the first quarter, Prestonsburg went on a 9-0 run in the second stanza to take an impressive 12-2 lead into halftime. The Lady Blackcats continued to control the contest in the second half, leading 17-2 at the conclusion of the third quarter.


MaKayla Ousley led Prestonsburg with a game-high seven points. Beth Burchett scored six points and Anna Belle Trusty tossed in three for the Lady Blackcats.


Chelsa Samons and Lauren Meade rounded out the Prestonsburg scoring with one point each.
