The 25th-annual Coal Area Toughman boxing event begins tonight at Logan High School.

The event, which runs Friday and Saturday nights at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena, has a 7:30 p.m. bell time each evening.

Tickets will be sold at the door both nights beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Toughman boxing promoter Jerry Thomas said up to 100 area men and women have signed up to fight at this year’s event.

“It’s not too late to enter. We’ll accept entrees right up until the day of the event,” Thomas said. “We have some openings in some of the lighter divisions, especially in the men’s light weight division that has only been around for a couple of years. That’s the 139 and under class. We also have room in the women’s weight classes.”

In addition to the amateur Toughman bouts, there will be two scheduled four-round professional light heavyweight fights on the card.

On Friday night, Logan’s Jason Smith is set to face James Denson of Akron, Ohio.

Then on Saturday night, Chapmanville pro Daniel Hensley is slated to box Orion Bolds of Canton, Ohio.

Both Hensley and Smith are former Toughman champions.

Hensley has never been defeated in a professional bout and carries a 6-0 record into the match. Last June, Hensley returned to the ring for the first time in 12 years and won a four-round unanimous decision over Ohio light heavyweight Gonzales Jones during a boxing card held at Logan.

Loacl recording artist Dee Dee Dillon is returning to sing the National Anthem.

There will also be the presentation of the colors by the United States Marines in the kickoff to Veterans Day which is Sunday, Nov. 11.

In addition to the boxing, Miss Ring Girl will also be crowned.

Up to $12,000 in prize money will be awarded to the boxers and ring girls.
