Veterans Day is a day set aside for everyone in our country to come together and pay tribute to those who give some and some who gave all to guarantee the freedoms we enjoy every day. It is also time to honor and thank the families of those who serve as they stay behind and keep the home fires burning, praying for their loved ones to come home safely, supporting them as they come back injured and grieving when they come back to be laid to rest.

America has always been a world leader and someone everyone looks to for assistance to gain personal liberties and freedom or protection from oppression. How very different our world would be if America’s brave men and women did not answer the call to fight the battles that preserve freedom and promote democracy in our world.

Watching events that happen around the world as people struggle to escape the cruelty of dictatorships and being aware of those who die in foreign lands as they serve their country, like the four Americans who died in the recent embassy attack in Benghazi, serves as a painful reminder that freedom is not free.

So, remember today the brave men and women who fought or served in any time of conflict like the World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the many brave young men and women on active duty service all over the world today, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Because of their service and sacrifice, and that of their families, the world is a much better place for us all.
