PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg Blackcats owned leads over the visiting Danville Admirals in the second and third quarters Friday night. Prestonsburg battled for the win from the opening kickoff until the final horn sounded. The Blackcats, however, fell short in the end. Behind the rushing of senior running back Jadarius Brown, Danville edged District 8 champion Prestonsburg 16-14 Friday night in the second round of the Class 2A State Playoffs at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.


Danville fared very well on the ground, rushing 48 times for 246 yards. Brown carried the biggest rushing load for the Admirals as he took 16 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns. The Admirals won without gaining any yards throughout the air. Danville saved its best for last in the postseason matchup, outscoring Prestonsburg 13-7 during the second half. The Admirals used a touchdown in the third quarter to pull out in front of the Blackcats. The Admirals moved ahead and never trailed again.


Neither team scored in the first quarter. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Jarrell hooked up with junior receiver Grant Anderson on a 30-yard scoring pass for Prestonsburg’s first touchdowm. After kicker Jon Stidham tacked on a PAT, Prestonsburg led 7-0.


After allowing Danville to connected on a field goal, Prestonsburg settled for a 7-3 lead at halftime.


Danville used a touchdown to move out in front of the Blackcats in the third quarter. The Admirals moved ahead and never trailed again.


Jarrell completed 17-of-28 passes for 335 yards with only one interception for the Prestonsburg in the season-ending loss. Anderson led Prestonsburg in receiving, securing eight catches for 103 yards. Bryson Williams hauled in four receptions for 92 yards in Prestonsburg’s setback.


Adam Griffith grabbed two catches for 74 yards for the Blackcats. Griffith scored Prestonsburg’s other touchdown on a 47-yard reception.


Limited on the ground, Prestonsburg rushed 18 times for only eight yards.


Danville will visit District 7 champion Somerset for the Class 2A, Region 4 championship game on Friday, Nov. 16.
