West Virginia University competed in the Formula SAE competitions throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s but has not competed since 2000. This year 29 dedicated students have taken on the task of resurrecting the program from the ground up. This means the team will have to furnish facilities, develop with a completely new design, and fabricate the design. At the end of the year, the university will decide if this program is worth saving. This is a tremendous challenge for the team to overcome, and to do so we are going to need the help of many different sponsors like you. The sponsorship money given this year will allow this team to succeed in reviving a very important and worthwhile senior design project.

There are also two Boone County natives on the team this year: Caraline Griffith - a senior in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and L. Travis Nichols - a senior in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The Formula SAE Series competitions challenge teams of university undergraduate and graduate students to conceive, design, fabricate and compete with small Formula-style autocross race cars. There are very few restrictions on the overall vehicle design to give teams the maximum design flexibility and freedom to express their creativity and imagination. The team will spend eight to twelve months designing, building, testing and fine tuning their race car before competing against teams from 120 colleges and universities. The experience culminates in a final competition where students have the opportunity to showcase their creativity, engineering and design skills and evaluate their race car against entries from other universities around the world.

The competition this year will be held in Detroit, Michigan at the Michigan International Speedway from May 8-11 and we are looking for sponsorship from different companies and organizations.
