DELBARTON - “If you come to Delbarton to do bad stuff, we are going to be looking for you.” That is from Tim Copley, one of Delbarton’s two new patrolmen.

Delbarton Police Chief David Nunley says the addition of Copley and Patrolman Josh Tincher brings the total of people his force to six, including himself.

Copley, 22, is originally from Mingo County. After he moved to Georgia, he joined the National Guard, where he served in the 201st Field Artillery for nine months near Iraq-Kuwait border. When he was discharged, he returned to Mingo County.

Tincher is a 24-year-old of Williamson High School. The men will attend the West Virginia State Police Department.

This is both officers’ first job in law enforcement.

“I like the idea of helping those who can’t help themselves,’ Copley said. Tincher agreed.

“I love a job where I can give back to the community,” Tincher said. “This patch on our shoulder means everything to us. This is our town, we are a brotherhood, it is us.”

Patrolman Tincher said Chief Nunley has brought a new attitude to the force.

“It is mandatory we work out for a minimum of an hour, five days a week,” Tincher said. “It is a new day for law enforcement in Delbarton.”

“I have two of the best officers I could get,” Chief Nunley said. “I had ten or eleven men to choose from, and these are the best of the best.”

“We are going to address the drug problem,” Nunley said. “We have a K-9 unit, and are able to use that for random checks at traffic stops and raids at houses.”

Chief Nunley said he plans to take the K-9 unit to Mingo Central High School for locker checks. “That is not about busting kids, it’s about being proactive.”

Nunley said he plans to add another officer to the Delbarton Police Department in the next month.

“I am happy to have fresh blood,” Nunley said. “We are beating the pavement, we want to make a change.”
