7 programs achieve 100 percent pass rates
MUD FORK — Students who graduated from seven programs in Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College’s Department of Allied Health and Nursing passed state licensure examinations at a rate of 100 percent this past spring and summer.
Graduates from the school’s Central Sterile Supply, Electrocardiography, Medical Laboratory Assistant (1-year certificate), Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology, Salon Management/Cosmetology and Respiratory Care Technology(2-year associates degree) have all pass national and/or state licensure/certification exams and are eligible to practice their chosen profession.
“Exams are national, so this puts Southern in the highest ranking for each program. This is an excellent accomplishment for the students, faculty and institution,” said Dr. Pamela Alderman, Dean Career and Technical Programs. “The staff does an outstanding job providing the education to prepare these students for success in their careers.”
Programs are staffed by: Dental Hygiene, Dr. Lisa Haddox-Heston, Coordinator and Andrea Brown, Faculty; Medical Laboratory Technology, Vernon Elkins, Coordinator and Shirley Spriggs Dardi, Faculty; Respiratory Care Technology, Steven Hall, Coordinator and Stephanie Daniels, Faculty; Salon Management/Cosmetology, Melissa Adkins, Instructional Specialist and Irma Colegrove, Instructional Specialist; Central Sterile Supply, Judy Curry, Coordinator and Meloney McRoberts, Faculty; Electrocardiography, Katherine Deskins, Coordinator and Cyndee Lowes, Faculty; Medical Laboratory Assistant, Vernon Elkins, Coordinator and Shirley Spriggs Dardi, Faculty.
Alyce Patterson-Diaz serves as Department Chair for these programs.
