GAYS CREEK — For the last three days workers with the Kentucky Division of Forestry have been battling a fire that as of Monday has burned over 600 acres of woodland throughout the Gays Creek community.
According to crews on scene, it appeared as though someone set a fire close to the road on Stable Fork which then spread. Currently, the the fire is under control with much of the fire being out completely.
The charred earth stretches from the top of the mountain on Ky. 28 in Gays Creek down to the Eagles Landing Camp Ground, and from Stable Fork to Buckhorn Lake.
No one has been hurt and all of the homes and structures were able to be saved in the area. The Division of Forestry remains on scene to monitor the few remaining fires.
