PAINTSVILLE – Big Sandy Community and Technical College hosted its annual Commencement event in the Mayo Auditorium Dec. 7.

The event began with a processional of Pomp and Circumstance performed by Bryen Lynne Goble. Vice President of Institutional Services, Bobby McCool welcomed guest with an introduction of paneled speakers, followed by student achievements and awards.

A total of 125 degrees, 66 diplomas and 315 certificates were conferred. Twelve students achieved recognition in Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, while 13 students were recognized for service in Phi Theta Kappa. Additionally, nine students maintained a 4.0 grade-point average and/or status in the BSCTC Honors Program.

Big Sandy Singer, Cassie Callaham provided two poignant and beautiful musical renditions entitled, The Call and Up to the Mountain.

BSCTC President and CEO, Dr. George Edwards introduced guest speaker, Keith Hale, Principal of Glasgow Independent Schools. Hale, a native of Martin County, is a graduate of Sheldon Clark High School. Additionally, he is an alumnus of BSCTC, Morehead State University and Western Kentucky University. He began his teaching career at Barren County Middle School in 1994 and has served as Assistant Principal and Principal of Barren County High School, and Director of Transportation. Hale commended the graduates on their astute achievement and spoke about the many opportunities and employment prospects for their futures.

BSCTC Provost, Dr. Nancy Johnson presented the graduates to the audience at the close of the Ceremony.
