LAKE, W.Va. — Lowell Adkins, 69, of Lake, departed this life Saturday, December 8, 2012, at CAMC Memorial at Charleston.


Born February 28, 1943, at Ethel, he was a son of the late William and Gladys Adkins. Also preceding him in death was one brother, William “Buddy” Adkins Jr., and one sister, Grethel Frances Miller.


Lowell was a former coal miner, a former machinist, a disabled veteran, serving in Vietnam, and a member of the VFW post 3668 at Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.


Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Mullins Adkins; one daughter, Maria Lynn Adkins West; three sons, Gerald Lee (Elizabeth) Adkins, James Lowell Adkins and Anthony “Tony” (Melissa) Adkins; two sisters, Loella “Tiny” Miller, and Mary (Wesley) Craddock; five grandchildren, Lydia and Alyssa West, Taylor and Amanda Adkins and Michael Garrison, and special family friends, Dean Ball, Chris Miller, Billy Hayes, Lonnie Dale Meeks and Catherine Mullins.


Services will be held at noon Friday, December 14, at Freeman Funeral Home with Warren Marcum and Wiley Kent officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.


Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.


Pallbearers will be Gerald, James and Tony Adkins, Michael Garrison, Chris Miller and Christopher Miller.


Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Ball, Lonnie Dale Meeks and Billy Hayes.


Memorial contributions can be made to Linda Adkins.


Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.
