It was a good weekend for the Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team, which won its own holiday tournament championship with a 56-28 blowout victory over Guyan Valley at the CMS gym on Saturday.
Guyan Valley made to the finals by upsetting Harts Middle, 28-22, on Friday night.
The Lady Tigers came out of the gate running, jumping out to 31-11 halftime lead.
CMS continued their solid play in the third quarter, taking a 45-17 lead into the fourth quarter.
“Our young kids got some valuable playing time in the last quarter,” Lady Tigers’ coach Tommy Kirk said. “We played a really nice game today. Our defense was really sharp leading to several nice fastbreaks. We played nice team ball. We got in just a little foul trouble early and our bench played some good minutes to keep us clicking.”
Abby Marcum sparked Chapmanville with 23 points. She was followed by Hollie Carter’s 14. Lexi Martin had five while Richelle Thompson and Nadia Perry each had four points. Jacy Baxter, Cheyenne Armstrong and Kaylee Blair all had two points.
CMS was scheduled to host Sherman in a boys/girls doubleheader on Monday.
