A beauty queen met with local students Wednesday to discuss the issue of bullying in schools. Whitney Allen is Miss Eastern Kentucky and will be competing for the title of Miss Kentucky in 2013.

Allen, a resident of Magoffin County, grew up being teased and bullied in school, and found herself both physically and emotionally hurt from her experiences. The bullying became so bad that her parents enrolled her in different schools three times before she eventually was home schooled by her mother.

Since then, Allen has gone on to college where she is a senior at Eastern Kentucky University and majoring in communications. But it is through her struggles that she found her platform issue of bullying.

The students of A.B. Combs Elementary got the chance to hear Allen’s story and ask her questions about how to handle bullying.
