The Logan Middle School girls’ basketball team started out the 2012-13 season conference schedule in a big way by rolling to a 49-9 win over Ripley on Wednesday night behind strong performances by Sydnee Roberts and Lexi Hines.

The two captains each scored 10 points and got the Lady Wolves out in front to stay.

Roberts also contributed four steals and three assists. Hines had five rebounds and three steals.

LMS coach Carol Workman praised the efforts of her two leaders.

“These two girls always come to play and led the way for our team,” she said.

Logan Middle center Tomi Nelson chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

“Tomi does a good job of controlling the boards for us and she finds a way to sneak in behind the defenders and get an easy basket or two,” Workman said.

Beth Adkins scored six points, two rebounds and two steals for Logan.

“Beth got off to a slow start, but hit her last three shots,” Coach Workman said.

Steph Curry added two points, five boards and two assists for LMS.

“Beth and Steph both hustle and work their tails off and do the little things that don’t always show up in a stat book,” Workman said.

Chelsea Napier had six points, Jaden Oney five and Jazmyne Early two for the Lady Wolves. Ally Sipple contributed four assists and three rebounds.

“Those four girls are getting valuable experience that will hopefully help us next year when they are eighth-graders,” Workman said.

In JV action, the Lady Wolves were beaten 40-26 by Ripley.

Sipple and Zoe Browning led the way with four points each, while Alexis Perry, Brittney Welch and Chelsea Napier added three each.

“It was not a very good effort put forth by our girls tonight,” Logan Middle JV coach Hazel Mollett said. “We turned the ball over way too much and didn’t run our offense. We have a lot to improve on.”

The LMS girls are scheduled to return to action on Monday at home against Winfield. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
