LOGAN – The Logan County Board of Education (LBOE) approved items for 18 schools, which were part of the Local School Improvement Council (LSIC) presentation.

The LSIC meets, determines what the schools need, then follows up with meetings at the LBOE.

LBOE Superintendent Wilma Sigmund said, “The schools submit a list of needs through the LSIC, and then meetings are held to determine what the priorities are. We try to make sure everybody gets taken care of.”

The LSIC is bound by law to present a finalized list of needs to the board on an annual basis. Board Member Jim Frye presented this year’s list of items, which are meant to improve facilities, aid teachers and service personnel and improve the educational experience for the children.

• Justice Elementary – 300 folding chairs, one folding chair caddy

• Holden Elementary –Smartboard and two pieces of age-appropriate playground equipment for the new Pre-K class

• Logan Elementary – 100 folding chairs, mulch around playground equipment, replacement copy machine for the office and seven white boards for classrooms

• Omar Elementary – Swing set for Pre-K /Kindergarten students, lettering for the front of the school to read “Omar Elementary School,” four plastic-coated benches and four plastic-coated picnic tables

• Verdunville Elementary –Trimming done on trees and shrubs, repair fence and cut weeds away from fence and a K-4 swing set

• South Man Elementary – Window blinds for classrooms and new playground equipment

• Buffalo Grade School – New desk for principal’s office, replacement tile for the kitchen/cafeteria area, replacement tile for gymnasium, repairs/replacement sewer lines to address odors in restrooms and installation of screens over all drains to prevent issues with insects

• Man Elementary – Mulch for playground, three iPads and a cart

• West Chapmanville Grade – Blinds in all classrooms and repairs to fence along front of building

• Chapmanville East – Riding buffer for the hallways

• Hugh Dingess Grade – Safety doors and locks for entrance of older section of the building, sideqalk down the side to the building to replace a gravel walkway and repair to brick on front of older section of school building

• Logan High School –Repair/replace sound system in Logan Memorial Fieldhouse, install night cameras for the three bridges and Department of Highways signs indicating the Middleburg Island Schools

• Logan Middle School – Two sets of smart student responders, paint sidewalks in front of main entrance and library and a portable Smartboard for the Science Department

• Ralph R. Willis –Repair/replace phone system

• Man High School – Additional cameras in stairways, trim trees around building and repair/replace intercom, bell system and phone system

• Man Middle School – Computers for Math Lab and additional lighting for gym to address low lighting issues

• Chapmanville Regional High School — $3000 for television studio equipment for Tiger Nation TV and video surveillance cameras on parking lots and tennis courts
