MADISON – Scott High School lost W. Va. Player of the Year Makenzie White to graduation, but they Lady Skyhawks returned several other players from last year.

They defeated Mingo Central Thursday night 50-43 in a hard-fought game by both teams.

Kiearia Hammond led the Lady Miners with 10 points, while Miranda Evans banked in nine and Brittany Maynard and Ashley Curry each chipped in seven.

Brittany Stumbo came off the bench to score six, while Chrissy Farmer added four.

Jamiee Dotson scored 15 for Scott, while Ali Whitman added 13 and Julie Conway nine to lead the Lady Skyhawks.

Once again Mingo Central was cold at the charity stripe. They connected on 14-26 from the foul line for 53 percent, while Scott was 13-23 for 57 percent. The difference in the game was in the paint. Scott made 17 baskets and only one 3-pointer, while Mingo Central only made 10 baskets, but had a trio of 3-pointers for their total.

Mingo Central is scheduled to play the Lady Tigers of Chapmanville tonight at home.
