Dorothy F. “Dot” Pendleton, 92, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Dec. 13.

She was born July 26, 1920 in Barbourville, Ky. to Roy and Brilla Faulkner. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Herman Faulkner, and her husband of 50 years George Pendleton, who passed away in 1995.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Calla White and husband Roy, George Pendleton and wife Peggy, Jane L. Pendleton, and Susan F. Pendleton; grandson Steve White and wife Paige; great-grandchildren Steven, Fernando, and Brennan.

Dorothy grew up in Barbourville and graduated from Union College in Barbourville in 1942. She taught French and English at Hazard High School for more than 30 years as she raised her family along with her loving husband George. She retired in 1982 and spent the next 13 years caring for her husband. After George’s death in 1995, she moved to Houston to be closer to three of her children.

“Dot,” as she was lovingly known to many, loved her pets (especially dogs). She also loved to cook for her family and many friends. Every year at Christmas time she would make angel food cake from scratch for all her neighbors. She liked to garden, read and was an excellent seamstress, making many of the beautiful clothes her daughters wore. Always the consummate teacher, Dot would look for, and find, grammatical errors in ads and billboards. She was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston and also belonged to several book clubs. Dot was loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service celebrating Dorothy’s life was held Monday, Dec. 17 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston. Mrs. Pendleton will be interred in Harrodsburg, Kentucky at a later date. In addition to the customary remembrances please consider memorial contributions to the Caring Forever Foundation at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church or Hospice Plus at www.hospiceplus.net.
