Victor Derl “Coach” Kirk, 82, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Winter Haven, Fla.

Born December 20, 1930, in Logan County, he was the son of the late Lindsey and Connie (Frazier) Kirk.

He was an educator and a coach.

In 2011 he was included in the initial class of the Immoklaee High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

He served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in Korea, a member of the American Legion post 4300, Eagles (where he received the Man of the Year award twice) and was a Tennessee Squire.

He was a former member of the Moose and a resident since 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo (Danish) Kirk of Lake Wales; daughters, Darylena (Charles) Keene of Lake Wales and Glenna (Christopher) Roberts of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren Dionne (Steve) Spooner, Justin (Holly) Strickland and Christina Roberts; great-grandchildren, Stepheney and Daryl Spooner; brothers, James (Dalia) Kirk of Odessa, Fla., and Lindsey (Sue) Kirk of Hixon, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers John and Dana Kirk and sisters Anna Rose Hall and Dorene Leonard.

Funeral services will be held with military honors 3 p.m. Friday, January 4, at the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Donation may be made in his memory to the Lake Placid Athletic Department or to the Immokalee Athletic Department.
