WEST END – The historic Williamson Fieldhouse will once again be echoing with bouncing basketballs as the annual Hatfield-McCoy Shootout is slated for Saturday, January 19.

Mark Whitt, a longtime basketball official and sports enthusiast, is organizing the event. Several good high school basketball teams have been lined up to participate in the one day round robin

The first game is scheduled to start at 12 noon as Phelps, Ky. of coach Bobby Varney will take on Hannan.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Wesley Christian will take on South Charleston, coached by former Logan and WVU star Vic Herbert. In game three, Pike Central will play River View.

The Belfry Pirates of coach Randy Casey will play Hurricane at around 4:30 p.m., with Sheldon Clark coached by Frankie Smith playing Tolsia at 6 p.m.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Ripley comes to Williamson to take on Mingo Central coached by first year head mentor Brad Napier.

The final game of the night will feature the Tug Valley Panthers of coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson facing off with Riverside.

Tickets will be available at the door.

The parking is always limited for such a busy event at the Fieldhouse. The buses for the schools will be parked behind the Fieldhouse. Media and other tournament workers will park in the front of the building along 4th Avenue.

Security personnel should park on the gravel next to the Little League park. Additional parking for patrons is also available at the Little League field and across the railroad tracks at the National Guard Armory and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

Anyone parking along North and South Sunset should avoid blocking driveways or alleyways. Violators will be towed at the owner’s expense. Fans should not park or block the adjacent bakery building. Those who park along the U.S. 119 off ramp and the old U.S. 52 should not leave any part of their vehicle in the road or street. They will be ticketed and towed.

Any patron who blocks another individual will also get towed. No public address announcements will be made inside the Williamson Fieldhouse.
